The Problem with Fashion Is…

Hey guys, cutting all the crap, what is it with fashion everyyyyyy time?
First, the Grammys blew my mind, and then the Oscars. Did you guys see how it is evolving?
Or should I say… rotating?
Fashion is a huge part of our lives, whether we agree or not. It absolutely makes a huge impact. We still treat that rightly dressed man better than the underdressed one, don’t we? It’s how one expresses themselves, it defines our identity. That’s more than visible in all these big frames and figures. But the fashion industry? That’s another story.
Before launching Glitch, I was just a regular consumer, buying what looked good and felt comfortable, never really questioning the system behind the clothes I wore. It wasn’t until I dove deep into how clothes are actually made that I realized fashion, as we know it, has some serious problems. Problems that don’t just affect the industry but impact people, the planet, and even the way we perceive value.
Three Problems in Fashion Today (at least, according to me)
1. Fast Fashion’s Waste Problem
Fast fashion is built on speed—producing cheap, trendy clothing at an alarming rate. The result? 92 million tons of textile waste every year, according to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation. To put that into perspective, that’s a truckload of clothes dumped every second.

Why does this happen? The average consumer today buys 60% more clothing than they did 15 years ago, but each item is kept for half as long.
Trends shift too as fast as we scroll reels , and brands push out low-quality clothing that falls apart after a few washes. And where do these clothes end up? Landfills. Even when you donate, about 85% of clothing still gets discarded.
Big number isn’t it?
2. The Greenwashing Epidemic
Sustainability is finally trending (thankfully!), but let’s be real, sustainability is tradition. It has always existed. If the word recycling had an origin, it would definitely come from Indian moms. Just kidding!I still remember wearing a shirt as a teen and then again as an adult—it was definitely my favorite.
But here’s the problem: 59% of sustainability claims made by brands are misleading or unsubstantiated, according to a 2021 study by the Changing Markets Foundation. And we all know, real sustainability isn’t about buzzwords, it’s about actions.
So let’s be Indian moms and actually recycle, reuse, and repeat.
3. The Price vs. Value Illusion
Cheap clothes cost you more in the long run. When you buy a poorly made T-shirt for ₹500 and it falls apart in months, you replace it. Again and again. Now imagine investing in one well-made piece that lasts years. That's the real value.
Beyond durability, pricing in fashion is often disconnected from actual quality. Luxury brands charge a premium, but are you paying for craftsmanship or just a logo? On the other hand, fast fashion’s dirt-cheap prices come at the cost of underpaid labor, unethical practices, and environmental destruction.
What’s Next? A New Era for Fashion
The real problem with fashion is that it never stops, it’s running nonstop, as if slowing down means dying out. But fashion needs a reset, a moment to breathe. After all, it’s about how we feel and how we represent ourselves. So why not take time and do it right?
The good news? Consumers today are more informed than ever. A 2024 McKinsey report found that 67% of consumers now consider sustainable materials when shopping for clothes. That’s huge.
At Glitch, we’re all about being part of this change. Whether it’s about using natural materials, making real sustainability claims, or setting fair price points—we’re here to build something that lasts.
We believe the solution isn’t to stop buying clothes, it’s just to buy smarter. We design basics, but better. The pieces that you’ll actually want to rewear. You know the facts and factors, but here you go, yet another reminder:
- 100% Organic Fabrics: We use bamboo cotton, which is naturally renewable, biodegradable, and free from harmful chemicals.
- Azo-Free Dyes: Our dyeing process avoids toxic waste that pollutes water bodies.
- Timeless Over Trendy: We make high-quality staples that outlast fast fashion cycles.
Sustainability isn’t just a marketing strategy for me, it’s the foundation of everything we create at Glitch.
Glitch is here to offer fair pricing for premium quality, because true luxury isn’t just about looking good, it’s about feeling good, knowing your clothes were made responsibly.
Quiet luxury, right?
We hope you choose to Glitch. The solution to the problem is literally in your hands.
